It's a free internet telephony application. Works fine on broadband,
acceptably on a 56K dial-up. It's peer-to-peer: you need Skype at both
ends. It also encrypts all the content, and has instant messaging and
conference calls.

Bloody useful- my business partner and I live about 220 miles apart, so
it's handy when we're working on something.

Isn't bad, but closed source - so nobody who knows about Crypto has had a
chance to check if the encryption really works or not.
PGP do a free one called PGPfone, but it really needs more bandwidth than a
56K modem will give (although it works acceptably directly on a phone,
rather than over the internet, so it may just be sensitive to delays)
SIP apparrently supports encryption, but I can't find a SIP phone that uses
it.
