Pretty much no...

There are a fair few lurkers though.... and most are happy to respond to
things. Just don't have anything to say to what feels like an empty space.

Here's one for starters then. I have this friend who I tell everything to.
She's a wonderful individual and we're totally intune with each other and
can discuss everything from the latest romantic comedy we watched to what
should happen with SH. Thing is I am yet to tell her about my "change in
lifestyle" and she keeps asking about the guy i'm seeing who to use a term
i've learned and am using all the time is my "primary". So, I'm kinda
thinking ok should i just tell her, I kinda think her reaction would be "so
how come you get more than 1 great guy when I cant?", or do I not.

Has anyone got any positive / negative (prefer the positive :P) reactions to
telling friends / relatives?

Hugs and kisses to those who want them and those who dont hugs anyways,

Well, I'm not hugely "out"... but responses vary from "That sounds like a
brilliant situation in an ideal world, I hope it works out", through "That
sounds a bit odd, but fair enough", to "You need to decide what/who you
want.". The latter feels like it's meant to be a caring, motherly response
when I hear it.

Most people look a bit baffled to start with, and then seem to relax when
they hear more about it. I haven't had a single truly negative response.

I hope you can tell her how you feel and what's going on - my general
feeling is that most people can see that it's a great situation IF you can
deal with it and nobody gets unduly hurt.

If you choose to tell her, do let us know how it goes!

Hugs,
~Erica

Most of the people I socialise with are poly or have understanding of
it at any rate (that's goths for you). The friends I've told outside
of that group have been generally cool about it too but they've known
me for years and I've rarely been monogamous in that time, just varied
as to whether I've lived with partner(s) or friend(s) or people who
are somewhere in the middle.

I rarely tell my Parents much about my personal life and I know for a
fact that my Mother tells white lies to her Mother all the time anyway
so I'm hardly going to let it bother me(1)

And work are under the slight misconception that I have a husband and
a housemate, rather than that I live with a pair of partners, who are
currently sleeping with each other rather than me. Although I fumbled
talking about a not-so-ex the other day (I usually refer to her as a
friend to those not in the loop) with a customer who knew me years ago
and he gave me a very 'oh, yes?' sort of smile.

(1) My 'Pretend Family' matters far more to me on a lot of levels than
my original one anyway.

Dear Sarah,
I was wondering the same thing.. It seems impossible to join a properly
organised poly discussion in the UK - do you have any ideas?

I have plenty of ideas. On this subject none however. I was given the name
of a mailing list by another poster on here so perhaps someone else can help
out?
